Co-op is definitely the worst way to play Subnautica 2, but as a big old sea-wuss, I really dont care
Confession time: I never actually finished the original Subnautica. It's not that I didn't love its clever mix of sandbox survival and structured narrative; it's just that I'm a massive wuss when it comes to the sea. Subnautica's sun-kissed Safe Shallows? Fine, lovely. Kelp Forest's increasing murk? Nerves starting to tingle. The yawning abyss of oceanic horrors everywhere else? Bollocks to that. So when I finally reached the point where going down was the only option, I was done. I could immediately see the appeal of Subnautica 2's co-op companionship, the reassuring sense of safety in numbers, but it ultimately detracts from the heart-pounding solo experience. In the end, some fears are best faced alone, even in the depths of the ocean. So, while co-op offers safety, it also dilutes the tension that makes the game thrilling. If you're a sea-wuss like me, maybe stick to solo adventures for the full experience. Read more
