Series-best combat carried me through Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment, but I think I'm done with the Breath of the Wild version of the Zelda universe

short-reviews Nov 5, 2025

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment showcases the best combat mechanics of the series, but it feels like a repetitive grind in its familiar setting. The collaboration between Zelda and the Warriors franchise has reached a peak, yet the novelty is starting to wear thin. The combat is fluid and satisfying, but the lack of innovation in other areas is disappointing. - The character roster offers interesting abilities, yet many feel like reskins from previous titles. - Story elements are engaging but don't stray far from the established lore, leaving me wanting more depth. The visuals are stunning, but they can't fully mask the stagnation of gameplay. While the game excels in combat, I'm left questioning my investment in this iteration of Hyrule. Overall, it's a fun experience but doesn't elevate the franchise further.
