Nioh 3 Review
The Nioh series continues its tradition of simplistic morality, where good and evil are starkly defined. In Nioh 3, players step into the shoes of Takechiyo, a character who embodies the noble hero archetype, while his brother represents the ultimate villain. The plot, revolving around the feuding Tokugawa brothers, lacks depth, often feeling like a rehash of familiar tropes. Gameplay mechanics, while polished, can become repetitive, especially in the face of predictable enemy designs. The supernatural elements, though intriguing, often feel like an afterthought, overshadowed by the narrative's binary conflict. Combat remains satisfying, but it can be overshadowed by the game's lack of innovative storytelling. The inclusion of historical elements adds a layer of interest, yet fails to deliver a compelling narrative. Visuals are stunning, but they can't mask the narrative shortcomings. In summary, while Nioh 3 delivers on gameplay, it struggles to elevate its story beyond good vs evil. For a deeper dive, read more here.
