Fatekeeper: A Promising Physics-Based RPG

short-reviews Aug 4, 2025

Fatekeeper draws inspiration from Dark Messiah, offering a refreshing take on first-person RPGs. The combat system allows players to shove enemies off ledges, enhancing the visceral experience. While lacking a kick move, the druid protagonist can still use magic and environmental objects to defeat foes. The absence of an open-world format is a plus, as it promotes focused storytelling with opportunities for exploration. Character progression seems robust, allowing for diverse builds centered on strength, precision, or sorcery. Enemy design is varied, with intriguing foes like armored minotaurs and centipedes to battle. However, the worldbuilding feels superficial, lacking depth and engagement. The studio behind Fatekeeper, Paraglacial, has a promising background, which raises expectations. With early access set for winter on Steam, anticipation is building. Fatekeeper has potential, but it remains to be seen if it can deliver a compelling narrative experience.
