Every game is a roguelike deckbuilder now, but I've finally found a few that have stopped me being a hater

short-reviews Aug 10, 2025

The recent surge of roguelike deckbuilders can be overwhelming, but a few titles have reignited my interest. 9 Kings stands out with its engaging grid system, allowing for strategic placement and upgrades of units and buildings. - Fast-paced gameplay keeps you invested, and the cute pixel art enhances the experience. In contrast, The King is Watching offers a more complex approach, but its lengthy runs can feel tedious and the RNG can be punishing. Finally, Drop Duchy cleverly combines Tetris mechanics with kingdom-building elements, creating a satisfying gameplay loop. Despite genre similarities, each game offers a unique twist, proving that innovation is still possible in this crowded space.
