Battlefield 6 vs Call of Duty: A Critical Perspective

short-reviews Aug 10, 2025

Former Blizzard president Mike Ybarra boldly claims that Battlefield 6 will outperform Call of Duty 7 this year. His assertion hinges on the notion that CoD has become stagnant and lazy, particularly since Infinite Warfare. While it's easy to critique, one must consider the depth and innovation that both franchises bring to the genre. "Battlefield will boot stomp CoD this year," he asserts, but can it really? It's true that CoD's recent titles feel like a repetitive cycle, yet labeling developers as lazy may be an oversimplification. The open beta for Battlefield 6 shows promise, becoming the most popular Battlefield on Steam. However, overcoming the inertia of long-time CoD fans will be the true challenge. A power shift could happen, but a full-on stomping may be unrealistic. In the end, both franchises need to push boundaries for the FPS genre to thrive. Will this year truly signal a shift? Only time will tell.
